Visit Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is one of the top tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. This beautiful mountainous area is actually developed during the British era as a summer holiday to escape the hot climate in the plains of Sri Lanka.

If any British person happened to visit here for the first time, may think that he is some where in a small British Town except the sight of local people. Most of the buildings resemble the old red bricked buildings ad they are well maintained.

The cool city Nuwara Eliya is located at 6,128 ft height and 180 Km from the business Capital Colombo. Temperatures here range from 14C-21C in Jan- April season 16C-18C in May-August and stays around 15C-18C from Sept-December. European people specially British adore this city much and used to come over here every year for its cool climate and natural feeling. Nuwara Eliya is full of valleys, meadows, mountains, green tea estates, springs and waterfalls.

Visit Nuwara Eliya from March to June where local rich people too spend their holidays here as most of the Sri Lanka faces the dry hot sunny season in the month of April. In this season foreigners too head for the cool hill station after spending much of their time on the sandy beaches with water sports and sun bath for tanning.

You can reach there by road and can reach by train service up to the nearest city which is called as Nawalapitiya. From there on you can take Taxi, bus or can hire a private car to reach the Nuwara Eliya town. A good familiar private coach driver with much experience with those roads can take you there within 4 hours of time leaving from Colombo.

There is a fight service available from April 10th to April 20th for the price of US155 for one way from Colombo.

Don't miss the April Spring Festival held in Nuwara Eliya city. It is a fun and fair event for days with horse racing, motor racing, golf tournament, annual flower show, and carnival and school band parade. 2014 spring festival was started on 31st March.
