Colombo Katunayake Expressway.

Colombo Katunayake Expressway is now operative and it allows faster transport by vehicles between Colombo and Katunayake International airport. The distance is around 26 Km and the vehicles can travel between 80 - 100 Km/Hr to reach Colombo or Katunayake.

There another entry point at Ja-Ela town for the express way. The toll rate is between Rs 200 - Rs 300 depending on the entry point of the vehicle.

The project was started in the year 2009 and completed in the year 2013. The expressway consists all the latest technical aspects of any European standard expressway. There are 6 Lane at the starting g point and it will turn in to 4 lanes from Peliyagoda. The expected travel time from airport to the Peliyagoda is 20 minutes.

So all the tourists who are coming to Sri Lanka and the local fliers who are going to arrive or depart by using the BIA can make their journey safe and faster.

The project will be opened to the general public by H.E President Mahinda Rajapakse on 27th October 2013.

Take notice; this expressway is monitored by lot of surveillance cameras from the control room. Motor bikes or three wheelers (Tuk-Tuk) will not be allowed to use this expressway, and if you happen to enter in to this route you will be prosecuted by law. If you are a foreigner riding self driven motor cycles or three wheelers take precaution not to enter in to this expressway. When you are going around this zone better to have good knowledge of the route using the Google map in advance or ride along with a local person to avoid legal problems.
