Nuwara Eliya Spring Festival 2013.

April is the month for the Nuwara Eliya annual spring festival season to take place. People flock here from all part of the island to escape the hot sun and to enjoy the spring festival during the season.

This year 2013 the climate in Nuwara Eliya is little bit colder than the other years. Already the town experienced heavy rain fall and misty conditions. But these will not affect the April seasonal celebrations of the town people. Let's get together and enjoy the holiday season there.

During this holiday season, Sri Lanka's popular Tamil Sinhala New Year will be celebrated in Nuwara Eliya on 13th April and 14th April. You can witness lot of fun filled local games, beauty queen contest, Music Shows and many other events on these two days. This New Year festival is a colorful event with lot of local people used to participate and the foreign visitors too are welcomed to take part in these happy events.

The annual spring festival was inaugurated by mayor of Nuwara Eliya Mahinda Kumara Dodambageon on Monday 01st April 2013 around 8.30 am at the Nuwara Eliya town center where many local school bands too performed at the event.

The event will include

  • Horse Racing,
  • Carnival,
  • Boat Race,
  • Golf tournaments,
  • School band display,
  • Bicycle Race,
  • Flower Show and Cultural games will take place till 30th April 2013.

Nuwara Eliya Navy Cup Water Sports Festival – 2013

Date: 15th April 2013 (From 8.00 Am)

Venue: Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya.

Navy Cup Water Sports Festival is organized by the Sri Lanka Navy in association with the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council.

Horse racing will be will be held at the Nuwara Eliya racecourse where Jockeys will race on their horses for the Governor's Cup, Labookelle Cup, Upali Wijewardene Kandos Cup, Nescafe Cup, Sporting Times Trophy, Sumathi Cup and the Sunquick Cup where the grand race will be for the Governor's Cup.

Motor racing: Mahagastotte and Radella Hill Climbs will be held at the Mahagastotte Estate.

For the flower Show following place like Victoria Park, Colonial Hotel, the British Club, the Grand Hotel, Hill Club, local hotels and guest houses had prepared their flower gardens for the current season. Annual April flower competitions too will be held and the winners will be presented with trophies.
